Cosplay Culture.

Now this is something that has amazed and interested me for a few years now. Never had the balls to do it myself but would really like to do it myself….cosplay.

Rikku, Final Fantasy 10 character.

Cosplay (コスプレ kosupure?), short for “costume play”,[1] is a type of performance art in which participants don costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea. Cosplayers often interact to create a subculture centred around role play. A broader use of the term “cosplay” applies to any costumed role play in venues apart from the stage, regardless of the cultural context.(source)

I see a lot of Cosplay from the japanese to english doing it. It has become a very world known thing to do mainly at convenstions such as COMICON. The detail and level of commitment some people put in when doing cosplay is amazing. There are people who make their own costumes or buy them from specialised sites. The best thing is that you can dress up to be who ever you want to be!

Every girl loves playing dress up. Ever since we where young we used to dress in mummys heels, put on her makeup and wear pretty little dresses, strutting around like we where god’s gift to the world and the prettiest thing since sliced bread. Having the oppertunity to do cosplay is something that anyone would love and would not turn down. I mean, come on….girls wanting to dress like lara croft? Guys wanting to dress like super saiyan? yes please.

I think that cosplay should be something that happens regularly. I have become a fan of it and how people do it for a good few months, looking into what people wear and how they portray the character they are dressed as. I’m even concidering having it as a theme for my 22nd birthday (as i did not have a blow out for my 21st being pregnant) to see what and who people come as. If you don’t know what cosplay is or would like to have a look just Google it and you will find tonnes of things on it.

Lara Croft, Tomb Raider Cosplay

Another reason i like cosplay is the photography oppertunities it presents. I like to think i am a professional photographer but in all honesty im pretty ameture….However, photographing cosplay would be a really cool thing to do as you can have people in so many different poses and you can really portray the character well. I would really love to start going to the convensions and meeting up with people who cosplay and photographing them for a small fee and getting their photographs out there on the world wide web 🙂

Tifa Final Fantasy 7 Cosplay. Tifa the character far right.

Personally, the japanese do this better than other nations. Mainly because manga and anime characters are created by the japanese based on the looks of japanese people. There for, by proxy they do this better due to the artistic stylings.

LOL. Comment, like and subscribe to my blog please! ❤
